The Z word
For many, the humble Z is just the last letter of the alphabet. In fact, a closer look at the history of the letter Z reveals that it was once dropped from the alphabet. Why? Because it wasn’t used and was therefore deemed archaic. But the letter Z made a spectacular come back and eventually completed the English alphabet as we know it. It rose like the phoenix. The results? Zebras had names, Zoology became a thing, animals were kept at Zoos (not in captivity), gizzards tasted better. And in the Xhosa language, Zimkita became a name that had a meaning. So, for me Z is more than a letter, it’s a word, the Z Word. It’s a word that aims to empower, ask fundamental questions, and encourage people to reflect; a word that, I hope, will inspire action on the part of those it touches. Z is my final word on matters that are close to my heart and this website represents my views.
